What is the thought that I have not thought before? Modern studies in neuroplasticity confirm that experience in enriched environments encourages neuron growth. As I explore and discover new visual forms in the tangled forest landscape new synaptic connections are simultaneously forming the landscape of my mind. Hiking provides raw materials for my work. These neuronal shaped sculptures are emblematic of how a deep connection to nature develops metacognitive changes that enhance consciousness and creativity.

This installation of encaustic panels and river rocks marks a period of time in my journey that I relied on the strength of others, personal faith and the natural environment to overcome what I was going through. The cairn represents the marking and letting go of this difficult time. The engraved words were part of a collaborative effort. People who had gone through similar situations communicated words that expressed things or events that pulled them out of dispair and onto a path of healing.
