Along the Gallatin last Spring

This is one of the rainiest years I have witnessed in Montana. I was born and raised in Helena, MT and moved to the Bozeman area almost 10 years ago. The rain kept everything greener and lusher for much longer this year. Such a beautiful sight.

Elk Crossing

It’s still inspiring to see these animals in the wild. This one was seen up in Big Sky on one of those roads I just decided to follow to see where it would take me. It took me to an old logging road that was impossible to continue on in my modest little car so we turned around and were happy to see this guy as well as a grouse on our way back down. Totally worth it!

Leading Me Away

I was shooting some photographs in an area I often visit, when I noticed this deer on the trail ahead of me. I had been walking through the overgrowth trying to find those overlooked areas to photograph in and I think I may have alarmed her. My guess is that she had a fawn not far off and wanted me to follow her far away from it. What ever it was, it worked, she meandered this way and that, keeping a slight distance and a close eye on me. It was nice to be able to hang out with her for that short while.

Something about November

I think this has been one of the most beautiful Novembers that I can remember. Maybe I just wasn’t paying close enough attention before, but the light seems to have a certain glow…it infuses the land with just the right saturation. This hike was topped off with an abundance of crisp icy sparkles.

Island of Wild

I live near a tiny little woodland park that rests in-between houses and apartment buildings. This tiny little island of wild offers me the cognitive and visual recharge I need at the end of the day. It is amazing what just a tiny bit of nature does for me.

Capturing the Mood

Often times when I hike I sense a certain kind of mood…the lighting, the coolness of the air, the quietness where all you can hear is a bird or two fluttering from twig to twig. These are the moods I love to immerse myself in.

On the Verge of Winter

I like catching those ‘in between’ moments right before the season officially changes over to another. These photos describe that moment right before fall gives way to winter.

Feeding Time

We got to witness a pair of American Dippers feeding their hatchlings last summer. They had built a nest on a ledge of this massive boulder by the river. Both parents gathered tasty treats for their continually hungry brood.

The Yellowstone River

The day was hot. It was the end of summer and all of the mosquitos had disappeared. I love going to Livingston, MT. It is like stepping back in time…to the Montana I grew up in. The river by this time was low and we could wade across it to the center islands of rocks. Spiders scurried underneath our feet.
